The Cyclist Messingers

In November 1943 I left school at the age of 15 and straight away joined the Cyclist messengers. The East section was based in a house on Holderness road opposite St Columba's church. We used to meet socially there, but I was based at the warden's post in Downham Grove, off Preston Road. At the time I lived in Cranswick Grove. I believe that at the time of joining the service I could have been the youngest person in the messenger service, as the joining age was supposed to be 16, I was only just 15.
